Raat 1992 Hindi Horror Movie: A Masterpiece of Fear and Suspense



Upon release, N. Krishnaswamy of The Indian Express gave the film a positive review, calling it "technically superb" and writing that it "should be a reasonably tasty item in the horror film buff's menu card".[8] In 2013, Amrah Ashraf of Hindustan Times called it the scariest film he had seen, saying Varma's Bhoot was a "subtler, sweeter remake of Raat".[9] Suchitra Patnaik of Film Companion credits this film for changing the Indian horror film scene, stating: "It had actors pulling off stellar performances and a serene yet dramatic background score, making this 1992 movie a blockbuster hit."[10]


Bollywood is also rich in producing horror movies and this is not something which is the Bollywood is doing now as from the long time the Bollywood is doing so. In the time of 1980s or early 1990s our TV screen was surrounded with the horror movie which were produced and directed by the Ramsay Brothers, who were actually expert in producing horror genre movies. But those times the Hindi horror movies were not as much appealing as it need to be.

Stree is a horror comedy that is apparently based on the urban legend of Nale Ba, which hit the streets of Bengaluru in the 1990s. The movie revolves around the spirit of a woman who attacks men at night during festivals. However, a group of friends decides to unravel the mystery.

Taking place in 1920, this film is about a husband who finds that his wife is demoniacally possessed. Directed by Vikram Bhatt, this film is easily considered one of the best horror movies in India. It is loosely inspired by the classic horror film The Exorcist (1973). Refreshingly enough, this film is simplistic and realistic. In this horror-thriller directed by Swarna Latha, six friends go on journey to a mysterious mountain in Western Ghats. Naturally, something terrifying haunts these very mountains. If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, then this film is for you! While this movie suffered from mixed reviews and has been widely criticized for copying Blair Witch Project, this film is a solid tension-gripping thriller.


As a result, writer-director Rahul Sadasivan and co-writer Sreekumar Shreyas are not able to fully realise both strands of the movie. The absent one-third of the mental health drama in Bhoothakaalam leaves some questions unanswered. Meanwhile, the absent two-thirds of the horror film left me unsatisfied.

Directed by Ram Gopal Verma, Phoonk is amongst the most underrated horror movies in Bollywood. The plot of the movie revolves around black magic and superstitions. The fun fact about the movie is that RGV had promised Rs 5 Lakh to anyone who would watch the film alone in the theatre and not run away scared.
